Community Standards

While our community standards are flexible and thorough, this is not an exhaustive list. Corrective action may be taken for any violations that skirt the line of acceptability within our community standards.

Discrimination (intentional and unintentional)

  • Please be respectful of other cultures. If you choose to represent a culture that is not your own, please research, listen to real experiences of said peoples, read their stories or histories written by them. If doing an accent, please listen to real actual people speak and mimic that. We ask our players to avoid roleplay that reinforces harmful stereotypes or perpetuates microaggressions.

AI: Artificial Intelligence

  • We do not allow any form or usage of AI on Eden: AI art, voice changers, or text generation.

  • There is a delightful cornucopia of artistic and creative options to bring your character to life that we have provided in our creative channels, in addition to many artists within the community. Support one another and bring your vision to life.

  • Any usage of generative AI either in game or in the discord server will result in swift punitive action. Accidental usage of AI images will lead to a conversation with Staff. Continued incidents will result in a permanent ban.

Communication, Consent & Consideration

Players are more important than characters. The stories we tell are fictional and come second to the health and safety of our community. Excuses like “its simply what my character would do!” are not an acceptable justification for bad-faith behavior.

  • Get permission before DMing. Feel free to ask for consent in the general chat in our main discord server. If people have ‘DMs open’ or the like in their profiles, then fire away! Always be considerate of the other party’s comfort.

  • Give people grace. Always assume the best intent. Never presume that another person is out to get you on an out-of-character level or doesn’t like you. People have bad days, miscommunicate or misinterpret tone–especially through text and pixels. Always strive to do right by your fellow storytellers by gaining clarity before coming to a conclusion.

    • If you feel like roleplay is approaching an unfun level of tension, communicate with your fellow storytellers or open a ticket with our conflict resolution team. We are always happy to help facilitate productive conversations. We will always encourage our players to build rapport with one another, communicate, and create impactful stories together.

  • Get consent before engaging in highly contentious RP like torture or romance scenes. Never make advances on someone IC without having their explicit consent to do so OOC.

  • Use safety tools. Preemptively using safety tools can help combat bleed and prevent problems from happening before they avalanche. No one wants to feel unsafe or unwelcome in their hobby-do your part to make sure you aren’t contributing to that for someone.

  • Know your limits. Listen to yourself and seek to understand what you enjoy in storytelling. If you’re feeling burnt out, take a break! It’s meant to be fun and engaging. Communicate your boundaries with your roleplay partners around themes and topics that you are not comfortable engaging with.

  • Check In and Opt Out. Conflict should always remain between characters, not players. When you push conflict onto people who welcome it, the reward is greater and better enjoyed by all parties.

Corrective Actions>Punitive Actions

Education and elevation are top priority. We believe very strongly in the importance of education and constructive conversation while never assuming malicious intentions until proven that they exist. Our aim is to dole out corrective actions rather than punitive actions until absolutely necessary.

  • 3 Strike System. 3 strikes, you’re out. Punitive action may be taken sooner based on severity of the offense.

Harassment

  • Unwarranted hostile out-of-character contact, such as verbal abuse, is prohibited.

  • Consent is key: Ask before DM-ing someone.

  • Do not trauma-dump on strangers on the internet.

  • If you have questions or need assistance with something on Discord or in the RedM server, you can use our ticketing system for support.

  • Do not directly DM staff with questions or concerns; all communications with staff should be conducted through our ticket system or server’s discord.

Ticketing

  • Never be afraid to open a ticket or feel like you are inconveniencing staff. We are here to provide a good experience for you and assist in any way that we can.

  • When coming forward with a player-report ticket, we ask you to provide as solid evidence as you are able, such as screenshots or clips, but we understand that this is not always possible. Especially when it comes to concerning and insidious social behavior, we would much rather be aware of something even if you don’t have perfect evidence.

  • Use session-recording software, such as Medal or OBS, while playing.

  • Staff are the final authority on rule breaks, whether it be “letter of the law” or “spirit of the rules”. But we strive for consistency as well and do our best to judge fairly based on the severity of the rule break. If you feel you have been unfairly punished, do not hesitate to open a Leadership Ticket or submit an appeal.

  • When submitting a bug report, please include any error messages and/or F8 codes, as well as possible means of replicating the bug and screenshots.

Streaming & Recording

  • Please open a content creator ticket with us to receive the correct roles.

  • Streaming to a private discord is not allowed.

  • You may not be a viewer in a twitch or other streaming service channel while also on the RedM server.

  • While we respect and cherish the artists and entertainers in our community, special permission or social status shall not be granted based on contribution. Favoritism and rule exceptions based on content creator status are expressly prohibited.

  • Do not use out of character language to insinuate streaming status. No “receiving visions” from your twitch chat, having a “twitch in your eye”, etc.

  • Streamers are not permitted to give away private information (usernames, social media pages, etc) of others without express consent.

  • By playing on Eden RP,  you consent to potentially being recorded or streamed live.

Audio & Microphone Regulations

  • We do not require a specific microphone set up or quality, but rather default to common sense. All audio must be audible. Continuous transmission or hot mic-ing is not allowed. Please utilize push to talk or push to mute.

  • Voice alteration is allowed with  stipulations.

    • Absolutely no AI voice changers.

    • Voice alterations must be semi-believable and sound human-like (no robot voices, auto tune, excessively deep ‘monster’ changes).

    • You may not use a voice changer to disguise yourself while escaping capture after committing a crime or to impersonate someone else.

    • More intense Vocal distortion with a voice changer, such as an echo/reverb or unearthly qualities, is permitted ONLY if used sparingly and supplementally. It is not to be used as a constant modification.

Principles of Play

‘Yes, and…’ as well as ‘No, but…’

  • Role play is, at its core, improvisation. Some steering may happen over the course of your character’s story, but everything in-between is unknown. A major principle of improvisation is “Yes, and”: this keeps a scene going and can generate new ideas and character developments.

  • We never want to shut anyone down and bring an abrupt end to a scene. Even if your character may not agree with something, you can still utilize “No, but”. You may suggest a new angle that can be mutually beneficial to a scene.

  • Examples of both of these include:

    • ”I think we should open a business selling moonshine!” “Yes, and we should drag Penelope into it because she is a great cook.”

    • ”I think we should open a business selling moonshine!” “I don’t want to die in an explosion, but we could open a bakery and get Penelope to be our baker.”

Value Your Life and freedom-NVL/NVF & VYL/VYF

  • All characters, regardless of their background, should value their lives and freedom. No one is unkillable. No one is uncatchable. The world our characters live in can be violent and terrifying–no one should be running headlong into danger without reason. At the same time, we understand that some characters may be a bit more resilient than others. Even still, all characters should act with reasonable regard for their personal safety.  Some examples of Not Valuing your life (NVL) could  include:

    • Hearing gunshots in St. Denis and running directly towards them

    • Engaging in intentionally dangerous role play that could cause serious injury to your character

    • Excessive, dangerous horseplay

    • Talking back or instigating violence when outnumbered during a robbery

    • Refusing to surrender while outnumbered and outgunned

  • Similarly, not valuing your freedom may look like:

    • Performing multiple back to back robberies without reasonable attempt to hide or otherwise get away

    • Not taking measures to hide your identity in a string of crimes

    • Flagrantly and repeatedly flaunting your supernatural abilities in public, thus potentially drawing the specific attention of hunters and harvesters

  • Continued instances of not valuing your life may result in a staff-forced CK

Strive for realism

  • Our characters exist in a fantastical world of monsters, unnatural skies, and unknown entities. But they are still people who have, in some way or another, been thrown into sudden, sweeping danger. This should be kept in mind. How would you react to the sky turning blood red or masses of undead rising from the ground with the intent to kill you?

  • Shifters must roleplay their animal forms realistically. How do real life wolves, big cats, and bears act? Do your research! You can turn this into your own flavor, but keep in mind that you are portraying an animal. Shifters should never act like their domesticated counterparts.

  • Realism also applies to any real life mental illnesses and injuries displayed in game: disorders and conditions should be portrayed accurately and respectfully. Real people live with this every day and they should not be made light of. This is a subject we take very seriously. Any abuse of this will result in corrective action.

  • Characters must look period appropriate and be dressed for the weather and other conditions they endure. Real-life gender norms regarding clothing are not enforced here. Women can wear pants. Do not use “time period accuracy” as an excuse for hate.

    • Unrealistic hair colors (ex. bright red, green, blue, pink, bright orange, bright yellow, stark white) are not permitted.

    • Clothing colors should be realistic. No vibrantly dyed leathers or neon fur.

    • While some clipping is unavoidable, keep it to a minimum.

    • No unrealistic horse coats or patterns.

    • No drastically undersized horses clearly intended to be meme material. Horses should look at least semi realistic in size and color.

  • Treat NPCs like you would another player character. Avoid frequently using language like “stranger” and “local” when referring to NPCs–simply refer to them as people. Sometimes the NPCs aren’t always the sharpest tool in the shed, they bug out, and violence happens. Avoid antagonizing NPCs explicitly just to kill them as this will be considered RDM.

Stay in Character

  • While in the RedM server we expect you to remain in-character at all times. This means existing within the time period and avoiding present-day topics, such as obvious memes and modern language.

  • If you need to AFK, step away from the scene you are a part of and try to get to an area where you will likely not be seen or bothered.

  • Do not use the chat system to skirt around this. If you are having an OOC issue, we encourage you to step away from RP to fix the issue. For anything more complex, you can use the chat to communicate your needs (/me OOC:) but do try to stay in character as much as possible. Examples:

    • Microphone isn’t working: /me clears her throat or /me takes a large sip of water

    • Headphones aren’t working: /me rubs her ears /me excuses themselves for a moment

  • Slip ups are understandable, but habitual out-of-character language may result in a corrective action.

Banned Roleplay & Prohibited Themes

  • At Eden RP, we believe that erasing or changing certain parts of history can do more harm than good. Historical events are allowed to be referenced but should never be positioned in a positive light if they pertain to any of our prohibited themes (slavery, sexism, homophobia, etc). We expect everyone to be respectful about such topics and treat them like the atrocities they were.

  • No Sexism, racism, ableism, judgement based on gender identity, sexual orientation, and/or spiritual beliefs.

  • No facism.

  • No children, age play or other attempts to skirt around the 21+ rule. Characters are not permitted to have a put on, intentionally child-like voice.

  • No character is allowed to exceed 150 years of age, regardless of their Aspect.

  • Portraying fictional characters from other media, historical figures, or celebrities is strictly prohibited. No “Jerard of Riverton, The Bitcher”, no “Abraham Lincoln, vampire hunter”.

  • No Contagion Roleplay – the spreading of illnesses without OOC consent from the other players is strictly forbidden.

    • Roleplaying a fatal or chronic illness, giving people your aspect to convert them into werewolves or vampires etc are all acceptable with staff approval. Bear in mind that your actions have consequences.

  • No cannibalism RP without explicit, prenegotiated consent and conversation. Cannibalism RP follows the same guidelines for torture.

  • No sexually explicit role play.

  • No Pregnancy RP. Characters who are under the age of 21 are allowed to exist offscreen and in backstory, but should never be brought into the live playspace.

  • No excessively gross bodily function RP.

    • Allowed: Vomiting in RP, descriptive injuries, body horror.

    • Not allowed: werewolves urinating on someone's home to “mark their territory”, defecation, specifically causing harm to another character’s genitals, etc.

  • No Suicide or Self-Harm (though a little blood magic as a treat is a-ok. We do not consider this to be self harm for the purpose of enforcing this rule).

  • No Sexual Assault or Harrassment.

  • No Slavery.

    • Temporary holds or being briefly put in captivity may happen. Slavery specifically applies to long-term capture and exploitation.

    • Slavery or servitude in backstories is permitted, we just ask that all players remain respectful.

Powergaming

Powergaming is the act of forcing an outcome without fair and reasonable counterplay, exploiting in-game mechanics to gain an unfair advantage, or otherwise chasing a “win” mentality rather than acting in good faith towards a mutually enjoyable story.  It is about control and domination and is not acceptable. Some examples of Powergaming could include:

  • Lasso abuse

    • Combat Hogties: Using a one-shot hogtie animation during active combat will result in an automatic three-day ban.

    • Verbal Conflict Hogties: Using a one-shot hogtie animation during verbal confrontation, negotiation, arguments, or similar social situations to pre-emptively end the scene will result in an automatic three-day ban.

  • Using abilities to get positioning that would otherwise be inaccessible:

    • Ie; teleporting or flying to an unreachable rock, then shooting down into combat

  • Abusing animations for gameplay advantages.

  • Forcing magical abilities on someone through /mes to control their emotions without consent.

Metagaming

Metagaming is the act of using out-of-character information in the active playspace for the purpose of gaining an unfair advantage. Steering, having conflict resolution discussions, and checking in with your fellow roleplayer is NOT considered to be metagaming. Some examples of metagaming could include:

  • Sitting in discord and locating someone based on what a player has told you

  • Taking or otherwise using content from a journal entry shared in the discord into the live playspace

  • Using magical “connections” to determine the location, thoughts, feelings, etc of another character

  • Magical abilities that grant meta-like knowledge, such as telepathy.

  • Watching a Twitch stream to gain knowledge you would otherwise not learn in character or to metagame someone’s location.

Slowburn, Escalation & Pacing

  • Storytelling is not a race. Give stories the room that they need to breathe and let them progress naturally.

  • Action can be very exciting, and Eden RP is certainly full of it. But be mindful of the experience you are helping create at large–don’t feel pressure to escalate too quickly just for the sake of something happening

  • Not every disagreement needs to become a gunfight. If you fan the hammer immediately into someone's chest because they insulted you, disagreed with you, or bruised your ego, expect corrective action.

  • Violence should feel earned, not always automatic.

  • Players who repeatedly escalate minor disputes into lethal encounters may receive temporary bans and administrative review.

Torture Roleplay & Consent

  • Utilize the safety tools and guides we have implemented to get the most out of your experience.

  • Torture is only allowed when given express consent ooc either through /mes or DMs.

  • The other party should always know what your OOC intentions and actions are. When getting consent, please disclose your plan. Do NOT be nebulous. Ex: /me consent to torture (ripping off fingernails)?

  • Torture is not a small thing. If you are found to be frequently torturing people without proper escalation, corrective action will be taken.

Safety Phrase & Tools

  • Here at Eden RP, we encourage our players to explore the darkness and lean in to the themes of the world. But we do this with the enjoyment and safety of our players at the forefront. During play, if you are severely uncomfortable with the content of a scene, you may use the phrase “Mother, guide me” to immediately end the scene. This can be said verbally or through text (ala /me’s).

  • All parties involved should respect the declaration, disengage, and end the active roleplay. Signals must ALWAYS be respected and obeyed. This is not to be used as a way to dodge consequences for actions or get out of scenarios like being robbed. Abuse of this system in either direction is strictly prohibited and WILL result in disciplinary action.

  • After disengaging, it is highly encouraged for players to reach out and communicate with one another OOC. If you do not feel comfortable doing so independently, you are more than welcome to open a conflict resolution ticket to have a member of our team assist you.

  • This is used to help players feel empowered to control their narratives and communicate consent while in emotionally intense scenes while remaining intuitive. We ask that everyone use this system wisely with respect for its purpose–Please be mindful of how this is used in typical scenarios like your average crime. The Safety Phrase is an out of game tool–the mode of communication is player to player, not character to character.

    Important Reminder

Roleplay can be therapeutic but is not therapy, and method acting (“its just what my character would do!” style mentality) or commitment to  immersion are never more important than a player’s well being. If you’re uncertain about engaging with a particular type of RP, do not engage, especially if its with people you are not fully comfortable with. A genuine threat to any player’s mental wellbeing takes precedence over roleplay — without exception or exemption.
