Research Guide
At Eden RP, our goal is to provide our players with a living, breathing world to interact with, to leave their finger prints on. Because we are a very story & lore heavy server, we want people to feel empowered to interact with plot and contribute to the overarching story in meaningful ways. There is plenty to be uncovered or invented within the world of Eden. Our staff is ready to help guide you through it.
Research VS Lore Tickets
A research ticket refers to an active line of inquiry, whereas a lore ticket should be used for OOC clarifications and questions related to server lore, canon, character changes or their backstory, and asking about things your character would already feasibly know about IC.
Example:
Your Adept character was turned by a vampire and has now become one: Lore ticket.
Your Adept character wants to better understand Blood curses: Research ticket.
When in doubt, simply ask us and we will point you in the right direction!
FAQ
-
A Research ticket should be submitted before any active investigations or actions take place. The moment you realize you want to make something or look deeper into a topic, make a research ticket. It’s hardly ever “too soon” to create one. This ensures that staff can assist you as soon as possible, making sure that everything is within the realm of possibility according to our lore or course corrected as needed. We don’t want anyone to feel like they’ve wasted their time by going through hours of RP, only to have to retcon things after the fact.
-
Anything and everything! Want to see if you can develop a new magic ritual and would like staff support for it? Research ticket. Want to see if you can uncover lost records or accounts of faction actions? Research ticket.
-
Anyone can submit research for almost any reason, but the primary people involved in the research should be the ones opening a ticket.
-
After submitting a research ticket, our team will discuss what actions would need to take place in order for your character to know the answers to their questions. Character actions will need to make reasonable sense with the topic you are trying to research. This will look different for each person and each inquiry with the universal goal of helping players create smooth, immersive scenes with real weight and the confidence of Pre-Approved Lore Team support. Please follow through with the actions we ask for. It is an honor system. Skipping out on the scenes we ask for and simply immediately knowing the answers IC will be considered a rule break.
Example: Your character is trying to find records about long lost family. The Lore team then collaborates with the player to create what they would find, then they ask you to go IC and spend some time in various facilities searching for records.
-
By opening up a research ticket beforehand, you can go into a scene already knowing the answers, therefore not slowing down any RP while you wait for a response from staff. Because we have robust lore and server history, we want to make sure that both players and staff are on the same page, that way we can avoid retconning scenes or forcing people into different outcomes after a scene has already taken place.
Limitations
We cannot give out information about another character without their players' consent. Not every research ticket will result in success, but this is always something we will be up front about while still giving players what they need to make a story out of it. Please be aware that there are certain mechanical limitations to what can be accomplished. The more theater of the mind your idea is, the easier it will be to execute.
