Child of Eden
Archetypes: The Naive, The Innocent, The Local
Eden has always been your home; it’s all you’ve ever known. Her arms have always been open to you, the rivers and stones know your name, and you know theirs in turn. Slowly and all at once, things are beginning to change. Suddenly and over time, this doesn’t feel like the home you’ve known. You’ve heard of The Pact (though mostly only after it was “shattered”), and never really understood its importance… Until it was too late.
While Eden is a large state, most of its communities were close knit. You know it’s people. You are its people. Which makes it all the more unsettling as the rivers and stones speak new names, and strangers (old, and new) fill your home.
This is a whitelist only Calling. Please fill out the Child of Eden Whitelist application here:
In order to be approved for the Child of Eden calling, you must submit a more detailed backstory, demonstrate understanding of the setting and be generally onboard with being more deeply involved with Eden’s lore.
The Fool
Archetypes: Stranger in a Strange Land, The Lost, The Sacrificial Lamb
Where the hell are you? This place doesn’t seem familiar. Maybe you took a wrong turn on the trail? Perhaps you’ve been following the wrong train tracks. None of the landmarks seem to match any map that you have, and these lakes and rivers don’t make any sense. You are seeing roads and signs for towns that you don’t recognize, and are seeing ranchers and wagons in places that should be functionally uninhabited wilderness. Strange shapes move in the trees, and unfamiliar animal calls echo over the mountainside. Too-tall shapes move in the plains, and people meet you with a curious and confused stare. Whether you were sent here by someone, or were headed elsewhere, one thing is for certain.
You are very lost.
Lazarus
Archetypes: Reanimated, Born Again, Troubled Past
You remember it vaguely. Dying.
Maybe the cold crept in as you clutched a wound that soaked your clothes in blood, your limbs growing weak as the darkness stole your strength and the edges of your vision in kind. Or your head pounded and breath grew ragged as sickness ravaged a disease-ridden body. Maybe hunger or cold gnawed at you, and sleep promised warmth, and an end to the pain. Maybe it was a moment of surprise, a shock of fear, and then nothing.
Whether you were expecting oblivion, or some eternal reward, you were not expecting to wake up again… And yet.
As you pull aching limbs from the dirt and stumble to your feet out into the air once again, you find yourself almost assuredly alive and bereft of the malady that had done you in, save for maybe a scar as the sole proof it had been more than a dream.
It is hard to tell if this is an afterlife or some second chance, but you can feel in something deeper than your chest that this mercy didn’t come free.
The Calling
There is a pattern hidden deep in the poppy fields, a will whispered on the winds. Eden is as much of a place as it is a living, breathing thing. Eden calls to you, invites you– beckons you to step inside and stay awhile. A Calling is your background, the reason you have stepped into Eden’s Mouth. Whatever exact shape The Calling takes for you is up to your discretion, but they must all fit within one of our themes. Your calling is what drives your character’s motivations, their reason for being here.
Callings are mostly all story, but they do have some “mechanical” benefits. After character creation, you will get a starter kit of equipment based on your selected Calling. During play, specific Callings may be affected by things that others aren’t, or get access to additional information.
If you have an idea for a Calling that doesn’t 100% fit into one of the listed themes or are trying to figure out which theme your idea might best fit into, please open up a lore ticket. We will be happy to assist.
Song of the Beast
Archetypes: The Mad, The Magician, The Occultist, The Prophet
It began as a distant melody. A tune that crept into your life one way or another. Whether it took shape in your absentminded humming, or became a tune that snuck its way into your day-to-day by way of birdsong, or wind, or groaning pipes; you became aware of the melody. It wormed its way into the back of your mind and took root. Acknowledgement grew into repetition. A trick of the mind, or something more? Curiosity became wonder, wonder became obsession, and this simple but all-consuming melody somehow drove you from the comforts of your life.
You chased it on a whim. Whether it seemed to offer you something, some unspoken meaning between the notes, or you were simply trying to find the source to quiet the maddening melody, you found yourself in a place no map has ever known–You found yourself in Eden.
the displaced
Archetypes: The Wanderer, The Homemaker, The Survivor
Whether by choice or by circumstance, the wind has been your constant companion. With shallow roots and wandering feet, you have explored the great American wilderness. You have known her forests and her dust, her plains and her towns. You may have once had a family, a home, a job— but now your roving path leaves you nowhere else to turn, no far flung safe corner to escape to. You found Eden by happenstance, and it is your best (or only) hope of ever having some place to call Home again.
Not that you could leave if you wanted to.
The Investigator
Archetypes: The Scientist, The Scholar, The Detective
This world is full of strange and wondrous things, for those with the mind to find and the will to search for them. You have always been plagued by an insatiable type of curiosity. The kind of child to turn over rocks to expose the hidden things underneath to the light, regardless of the dangers of what could be lurking underneath. Whether by assignment or personal discovery, you came to learn of a state that was not on any map. Rumors spread of secret riches and impossible things within, and you felt that itch in your mind. That feeling to overturn the stone. To expose something concealed from you.
Likeminded people watch your expedition with great interest, but be wary. There are many things in this world that are hidden for good reason. Secrets better left kept, silence safer when unbroken.
